The National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) has launched a new awareness campaign for the danger of slips, trips, and falls. Named Falls Aren’t Funny, the campaign calls attention to the alarmingly high number of slip and fall accidents that occur each year in the United States and around the world. The campaign does so via fallsarentfunny.org, a website dedicated to “bringing visual presentation to the reality of slips, trip, and fall accidents.” Visit the website, and you can view user-submitted photos and videos of unsuspecting men and women taking treacherous mis-steps.
The campaign underscores the importance of a prevailing trend: Slips, trips, and falls are one of the most common yet easily preventable causes of accidental injury in both the workplace and at home.

In 1997, I, along with 10 other manufacturers, founded the NFSI with the purpose of educating property owners as to what they can do to prevent slips, trips, and falls. Since that time, we’ve learned a great deal. Every 8 seconds, someone is the victim of a slip and fall. The problem of slips and falls is serious, costly, and it’s not something that’s going to change any time soon. Fifty-five percent of all slips, trips, and falls is directly caused by the floor.
